Localization: Beyond Simple Translation

We transform your written communication so that it does not feel like a translation in the target market, but like an original. Precise, culturally resonant, and audience-oriented adaptation between German and English.

A localization workspace with two monitors, coffee, and a dictionary.

When companies expand across national borders, they often encounter an invisible barrier: the cultural nuance. A literal translation may convey the meaning of the words, but it rarely captures the intention, the tone, or the emotional impact of a message. This is where professional localization begins. We do not view your texts as isolated sentences, but as part of a cultural context that must function as effectively in London or New York as it does in Innsbruck.

Our editorial team in Innsbruck specializes in building the linguistic bridge between the German and English-speaking worlds. This process involves far more than grammar and vocabulary; it requires the adaptation of units of measurement, date formats, legal references, and, most importantly, rhetorical impact. We ensure that your brand voice remains consistent while integrating seamlessly into the expectations of your international clientele.

Our 4-Step Text Adaptation Process

01

Cultural Analysis

We analyze your source texts and define the target audience in the English or German-speaking region to establish the appropriate Tone of Voice.

02

Contextual Transfer

Texts are transferred by meaning rather than word-for-word. Idioms and metaphors are replaced by culturally equivalent expressions.

03

Editing & Refinement

A second editor checks the texts for fluidity, precision, and adherence to your Corporate Identity to eliminate any linguistic friction.

04

Final Validation

We align the localized content with the original objectives and deliver the finished documents in your preferred format.

Who is our localization service for?

Our services are designed for small and medium-sized enterprises, startups, and agencies looking to expand their market without losing professionalism through linguistic misunderstandings. This is particularly relevant for companies offering complex services where trust and precision are paramount. Whether it is technical documentation, marketing materials, or internal corporate guidelines, localization ensures that the message is received exactly as intended.

How the collaboration works in practice

The process begins with a detailed briefing. We want to understand who your customers are and what feeling your texts should convey. Should they sound authoritative and serious, or approachable and innovative? After agreeing on the style, we begin the adaptation. We work closely with your representatives to ensure industry-specific terms are correctly adapted. Throughout the process, you have the opportunity to provide feedback in up to two revision rounds to ensure every nuance is perfect.

What you should prepare for the start

To guarantee maximum quality, we require more than just the files to be translated. Helpful materials include a style guide (if available), a list of technical terms that must be used in a specific form, and information about the target region (e.g., British English vs. American English). The more precisely we know who we are addressing, the sharper the linguistic adaptation can be. Providing texts in editable formats such as DOCX or Google Docs is a requirement for an efficient workflow.

The Result: What you receive from us

You do not simply receive a file, but a localized communication package. This includes the final text in a clean DOCX or Google Docs format. Additionally, we provide a version with visible changes if you wish to track the adaptation process. We also provide optimized headings and meta descriptions for digital content to ensure your localized texts perform optimally in search engines. All documents are prepared so they can be transferred directly into print or your CMS.

Timeframes and Delivery

Quality localization requires time for research and reflection. Our average delivery time is 5 days, depending on the volume and complexity of the texts. For very large projects, we create a detailed schedule with milestones. Should you require an extremely short deadline, we offer an express service, which is calculated with a 50% surcharge on the standard price. However, we recommend planning sufficient lead time to avoid shortening the necessary editing cycles.

What is NOT included in localization

We value transparency regarding our services. Our localization covers the linguistic and cultural adaptation of texts. The following services are expressly not part of this offer: we do not create fictional customer reviews or testimonials, we do not write academic papers for students, and we do not handle texts in the fields of medicine, financial advice, investment, or political campaigning. Additionally, graphic layout (DTP) is not included; we deliver the texts, which must then be fitted into the design by your graphic designers.

Pricing and VAT

The billing for our localization services is transparently handled per 1,000 words. The price is a gross amount including the statutory VAT of 20%. For B2B customers, we state the net amount separately. The final price calculation is based on the word count of the source text. We work with a deposit of 30% of the total value to reserve the capacity of our editors. The remaining payment is due after project completion within 14 days for business customers.

Frequently Asked Questions about Localization

What is the difference between translation and localization?

A translation transfers the meaning of a text from one language to another. Localization goes a decisive step further: it adapts the content to the cultural, social, and legal conditions of the target market. This means we do not just swap words, but adapt concepts so that the message feels natural and does not provoke cultural misunderstandings.

Can you localize technical specialized language?

Yes, we handle the localization of specialized texts, provided they do not fall into the areas of medicine or finance. By working with experienced editors, we ensure that terminology remains precise. In such cases, we ask you to provide a glossary of your internal technical terms.

How do you handle different English variants (US vs. UK)?

We clarify this during the briefing. Depending on whether your target audience is in the USA, Great Britain, or another English-speaking region, we adapt spelling (e.g., color vs. colour) and word choice. We consistently avoid mixing variants within a single text.

Who holds the rights to the localized texts?

After full payment of the agreed fee, the exclusive usage and exploitation rights to the localized texts are transferred to the customer. Further details can be found in our Terms.
